to be honest, someone dying doesn’t equate to a bad shift for me necessarily. there are things worse than death

As an RT, NOBODY realizes I’m the one who physically takes people off of life support. “You’ve seen someone die?” Uhhh yeah. Nearly daily?

So I’m a medic and one time on my way home from a shitty 72 hr shift I stopped to get coffee in the drive thru. Well the barista ask “What’s the worst thing you’ve seen” I chose violence in that moment 😬

Not nurses traumatizing average people out in the world with our complete lack of what is ACTUALLY normal. 😅😅😅

As a vet tech: I didn’t realize how highly traumatized we all are until I started dating again. It’s world shattering when someone looks like you as if they’re concerned for your sanity lol

We literally forget normal people do NOT think what is normal for us….is normal….😂 My pt accidentally pulled his IV clean out and it bled a little and the transporter was like “omg I’ve never seen that much blood rush out like that…” it was literally like a tiny drip mind you and I just have to remember that I have seen blood projectile out of orfices like a geyser and she simply hasn’t lol.

I truly forget sometimes that "normal" people usually will only see a dead body maybe a few times in their lives, and at a funeral. 😳 Whoops! 🤣

My son is an RT. Last week we were talking about his job, and during that conversation I realized he experiences a death at least once a week. I was so shocked and sad, and he said, “Momma, this is why I don’t tell you about those things.” 😂

I’m so proud of my husband because he asked me how my day was and I jokingly was like “well everyone was alive when I left” and his response was “wow that’s two days in a row now! We should celebrate” 😂😂😂

I forget that the stuff we see is traumatizing because I’m like so used to it. I hate when I’m trying to tell a funny story and then I realize that it’s scaring my non healthcare friends

I had a nursing student ask me if we “get to go home now” after we finished up postmortem care. No babes… that bed will be filled in about 7 minutes. That bed. The exact bed that body is in. After WE clean it.
