@cbcbritishcolumbia: It's a remarkable story of survival. A man who spent nearly a week alone in rugged mountains on British Columbia's South Coast has been found alive. Stanislav Volo disappeared after getting off the Sea-to-Sky Gondola between Vancouver and Squamish last Sunday afternoon. An extensive search used drones, helicopters and police dogs across some of B.C.'s most unforgiving terrain. But officials say Volo found his own way back on Friday. #CBCNews #BritishColumbia #squamish #Hiking #survival
Don’t forget most of Canada is a 5 minute walk away from being in vast emptiness/wilderness.

An unprepared hiker, yes we have dozens of them every year. British Columbians don’t want to pay for the expensive rescues that put our search and rescue crews in danger. Bring a battery pack, bring flares, bring a GPS, and get insurance if you’re a tourist.

Why tourists shouldn’t venture into our mountains with absolutely no clue of what they are doing

From his face it looks like he took a rowdy tumble down the hill and may have had a concussion and no idea what was going on initially so he did an amazing job finding shelter and a route out. If you're going into the mountains make sure you know what to do. Also train your brain about directions and what makes sense regarding orientation related to the sun. That's a big help

I have been lost in the bush in squamish, took me like 12 hours to find my way out, I ended up on the highway in Whistler. all I could do was listen for cars, for hours I would end up at creeks or waterfalls. then eventually found the highway, heavy rain and cloudy skies makes it hard to tell which way you are going.
