Look at the miles morales discourse?? To many AA undermines Afro latinos and telling them they can’t take part in the discussion 😭 but we also can’t deny the anti blackness inside the Latino community either. It’s what lead to self hatred for one’s identity.

Some of my family members are Afro Latinos and the older generation chooses to not identify themselves with being black due to how black African Americans have treated them and how America views race I’m not saying it’s how all Latinos view it but it can be a reason

But the term is to distinguish African Americans from others. If they are an Afro Latina, that doesn't make them black. You'll never hear a Jamaican say their black bc black is also a culture

I think it’s cuz I’m not really black I’m mixed. Saying I’m black takes away from me being Brasilian. However in Brasil I’m black.

There's less than 3% of Brazilians in the USA! And less than that are Afro Brazilian- blk Americans people don't think about you enough for it to be an issue- maybe one experience does not mean ALL

It’s because people keep looking at the whole country rather than the individual like Jamaica is a mostly black nation but not all Jamaicans are black
