To those who don’t know, this song is about the singer’s father who died in September of 1982 when he just 10. After the funeral, he locked himself in his room for hours and when his mother knocked on the door to check on him, he simply said “wake me up when September ends”, hence the title. This phrase stayed with him for over 20 years and eventually became the title of this song.
