@freddymaconair: When it’s all said and done, one of the greatest honors of my life will be being a father. Cam is 5 now. And man, it all happens so dang fast. One minute you’re holding this little baby in your arms, wondering who he’s going to become. Then you blink, and he’s his own little person. Talking nonstop. Asking a million questions. Making me laugh. You better believe he’s testing my patience. Teaching me things about myself that I never knew. Somewhere in the middle of the routines, the messes, and the long days, you realize… These are the good ol’ days. There will be a last time I pick him up and carry him. A last time he reaches for my hand. A last time he asks me to play. Or be the tickle monster. Or throw him up in the air. And the hardest part is, I probably won’t know it’s the last time when it happens. Five years felt like forever looking ahead. Looking back, it feels like five minutes. So I’m trying to be here for it. Not perfect. Not always patient. Just present. Because one day my little boy won’t be so little anymore. And when that day comes, I hope he knows being his dad was never something I had to do. It was something I got to do. Time is an absolute thief.
