My kids are grown and over the last few years a dozen kids have moved onto the block. I love the noise and liveliness they bring. They knock on the door and ask me to bring my cat out on his leash so they can pet him, one little girl invited me to her “birthday extravaganza”. Children are a blessing.

This has always bothered me. More now as a granny who wants to help raise empathetic and empowered human beings.

I applied the same rules to student drivers. I am very respectful and drive 100% according to the law around them so that they have a good example to follow. I was once a student driver and when I was, I vowed that I would always be kind to student drivers and 40 years later I still do.

Do you think it also has to do with the downward spiral of our species? If you overcrowd mice in cages causing big stress they eat their young.

An astonishing number of adults report, when you ask them, HAVING NO MEMORY of being young children, especially; most will admit to remember being teenagers, but they will claim not to recall being little kids, or they will recount at most a few idealized sentimentalized twee memories. I am almost 60 years old and I have vivid memories of of my childhood as early as age 3. My family was far from the worst, and there are positive memories, but yes, also a lot of forced labor and violence, as was customary in those times. I never know whether to believe people who swear they don’t remember anything that happened to them before puberty, or whether they are dissembling for essentially political and cultural reasons because they don’t want to admit as adults that their childhood was abusive or oppressive.

Right ? I am 44 and sometimes I feel like I am the only one who remembers my childhood and how it felt to be a teen, I remember it like yesterday. Being tired all the times, so much easy rage, the feeling of dread of tests and friendships and failed love partners or lack of and I just remember that so much so when I see parents on here taking off doors, not letting teens sleeping in, just trash talking their own kids ..,, like what don’t they remember?

The current discourse between Gen Z being frustrated with Gen Alpha while actively mocking Millennials is a huge visual example of this “rising out of the oppressed class”.

When someone tells me they don't like kids, I ask what they think about themselves when they were that age. They mostly report some form of contempt for their child self 💔

I agree with your theory of differentiating themselves from children as young adults I think so many of us weren't allowed to express emotion, especially in public and the increased stress load of life in general makes people very overstimulated by the child like nature of children. AND I wonder how many of them are looking at the state of the world and not seeing parenthood as a viable life choice, so its easier to reject the idea of children altogether than to like them and reject having them. Like a stage of grief maybe? Rejection of the concept as a self protection.

I've been saying that people forget what it was like to be a child for years. they don't give children the credit to have figured out what's going on like we once did.
