Goldfish are very messy and produce high waste. A single small sponge filter is rarely enough for a standard goldfish setup. They also have very weak mechanical cleaning. They can trap large floating debris, but they do not polish water or remove heavy bottom detritus as effectively as canister or hob filters. Be careful with that filter!
