Foreign Minister of Nepal Shishir Khanal Thanks China for Emergency Aid and support, Stresses No Claims from Nepal for “Climate Justice Compensation” from China or Other Countries On September 3, 2026, H.E. Mr. Zhang Maoming, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal, met with Honourable Mr. Shisir Khanal, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal. Ambassador Zhang Maoming stated that since the severe mudslide disaster occurred, China has supported Nepal’s relief efforts in various ways. I believe that through joint efforts and mutual assistance, the people of our two countries will overcome the disaster and tide over the difficulties together. Climate change is a common challenge facing all humanity. No country can stay immune from the risks. China will continue to work with the international community, including Nepal, to strengthen exchanges and cooperation and effectively prevent and mitigate the negative impact of climate change. Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal expressed that the Nepali government sincerely thanks China’s generous assistance in times of difficulty, and on behalf of the government, extended heartfelt condolences once again to the Chinese government and people. Nepal and China share the natural ecosystem of the Himalayas and are both countries affected by climate change. Nepal agrees with China’s view that addressing climate change is a shared responsibility of the international community. Nepal has no intention of seeking “climate justice compensation” from any specific country, including China, and will seek compensation from the international community within the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Paris Agreement.
