@thatmoneymum: Let me be clear I actually think the subsidy system we have works quite well and it was amazing for us when we were on a lower income. I’m posting this more so that other working parents can see and discuss the challenges of trying to get the most out of both - wanting to earn as much as possibly but also the cost of earning more. Our subsidy is also higher because I have two jobs and ultimately feel super grateful for that! It is hard to see the cost go up and it can feel like you’re on a treadmill with your income - running as fast as you can and getting nowhere. That’s why budgeting and living within our means has become so important to us. Without it, in the last we would have any extra money just disappear into the chaos of the week. I’m glad to be earning my extra $190 per week but I am 100% going to make sure I put that towards something meaningful like investing or a family holiday. Budget spreadsheet is linked in my bio 🫶
