I run a nonprofit saving animals and that example you used is PERFECT. There are SO many women who join and get JEALOUS because I have done a good job running it and I’ve created community from it. It’s the weirdest thing because it feels like I just exist, I’m just doing my best to save these animals using all the skills I’ve got because THEY need help, and these women join to start judging and trying to tear me down despite it. It sucks because every single one of them shows up with good intention and then it’s like the process of helping out is what brings their own perceived inadequacies to the surface and they attack me before they abandon me. I’ve tried asking them for the bare minimum, I’ve tried proposing more responsibilities, or their own partner project they can own, even teaching them how to do it themselves. It’s like they want the glory without the work, but they know they can’t, so they attack me as if that’s what I have when I don’t feel much glory and I do a lot of work. It honestly feels like my abusive mother wound is getting salt rubbed into it over and over again, but I can’t quit because what about the animals? I seriously thought saving them would help me make more friends, not enemies, and the animals need so much more help than what I can do, that’s why I’m always asking for more help. I’ve dedicated so much to helping them and these women show up and treat me as if I got lucky or as if I’m doing it for clout. The only clout I have from doing this I use to save them! 😢

Also they pretend they don't want to be famous when they deeply desire recognition hence the hoards of people they keep around and try to control their perception of. and yes, they always discuss 1 topic or 1 person they have beef with. why are we discussing 1 person for 3 years. 🫠

Thank u for saying this. I’ve been sandwiched in both with different aspects in my life. Me proving and not proving. Like for me writing is deeply me. No credit needed. But ugh with my glassblowing and ceramics practice in there is a little bit of me wanting it to be accepted and loved and be worthy so badly. It’s painful to not have that. And I look at the humble people and learn from them. Somehow I am missing something.

I think it's because narcissistic people are often masking and pretending to be nicer than they actually are. then when I come across kind and humble people they feel a certain way. deep down they wish they didn't have to pretend and were naturally like someone else
