@on3rivals: The Big Ten has released a statement on the controversial Michigan walk-off Hail Mary against Western Michigan: “Following video review, it was determined Western Michigan’s #18 started his jump from an established out-of-bounds position (left foot) and made contact with the ball with one second remaining on the clock. As shown in the provided video of what was viewed during the replay process, a side-by-side view of the play and the game clock, using a direct shot of the game clock in the stadium, was used to determine the final ruling. Eighty-five minutes prior to the game, all broadcast cameras used for the replay system, including the camera on the game clock, are synced using a strobe system to ensure all cameras are aligned. Per NCAA Football rule 4-2-3-a, “A ball not in player control, other than a kick that scores a field goal, is out of bounds when it touches the ground, a player, a game official or anything else that is out-of-bound, or that is on or outside a boundary line.” and thus the clock is stopped.” #CollegeFootball #Michigan #WMU #Wolverines

This is a huge gray area but I can explain more thoroughly because I worked in the stadium. The clock system is built into the stadium and they are all wired and connected on servers, like a giant computer. They are pretty much like synchronized, gigantic networks that run by themselves. Now the TV providers are directly connected to these systems, but these wires have extremely small delays, about 0.004s. Now these stadiums also have Sony’s Hawk-Eye systems which are like, insane camera type things that capture each individual frame with high quality. these cameras and clocks are all connected on the same server/system and receive the same data. This means each frame is also perfect set up with the time on the clock making it extremely accurate, down to the 0.001s. So technically it’s possible for there to be time by the smallest millisecond, by the rule book, any time left at all must count and put back on the clock as 1s. I actually worked on the big 10 stadium after graduating from MIT as a Network & Systems Architect. I still believe that reversing it was probably the wrong choice though.

Yeah because the big ten is definitely going to rule against their biggest cash cow in Michigan… EVERYONE knows that UM lost and now the Big Ten is going to manipulate this in any way they can to make it look legitimate

The game clock hit zero when the ball was still mid air. If the play was over when 18 touched the ball the clock was off by at least 3 seconds which is unbelievable

Ah, the old “I kept the official time in my pocket” routine. They run this in soccer every game. I love it when it gets rolled out in real football. 😂🤣😂🤣🤡🤡🤡
