THE REALITY OF CHILD POVERTY IN UGANDA Did you know that child poverty in Uganda is not just about being an orphan? Some of the children we take care of at Light of Hope are from families where they have both parents but who can hardly find any means of survival. Many cannot afford even a single meal. These families are often in need of support themselves. Light of Hope moves beyond orphans to look out for such children or the Lord looks out for them through local leaders that bring these children to the ministry for hope. In Uganda, there is a large looming specter of child poverty that casts a long shadow over the lives of countless young souls. In a country where nearly 41% of the population lives on less than $1.90/day, children are often the hardest hit, bearing the brunt of economic hardship and social inequality. The world bank reports that one in six children are living in extreme poverty and that 50% of the global extreme poor are children. For many Ugandan children in the areas where LOHO serves, poverty is not just a statistic; it is a daily reality that shapes every aspect of their existence. Even with parents, some of the children endure hunger and malnutrition, lacking access to nutritious food and clean water. They are deprived of proper healthcare, with preventable diseases claiming far too many young lives. They face barriers to education, forced to drop out of school to support their families or simply unable to afford the fees and supplies necessary to continue their studies. But perhaps most tragically, child poverty robs these young souls of their innocence and their dreams. Instead of playing and learning, they are forced to work in fields, struggling to eke out a meager existence in the face of overwhelming odds. Amidst this despair, as light of hope children’s ministry we try to bring hope to these children through sharing the love ❤️ of our Lord Jesus Christ. We always commit to sharing the good news of salvation with these children while at the same time extending support through education, healthcare, and social welfare programs to break the cycle of poverty and give every child the chance to thrive. We work together with a family of men and women of God that are driven by the passion to serve the Lord through supporting children. These provide the underprivileged children under our care with vital support and resources.
