In Malé, there are limited places where cats can naturally bury their waste, so feeding them directly in front of houses, parking areas, or shared spaces can create hygiene problems. Cat feces can carry parasites and other germs, including Toxoplasma gondii, which can be particularly serious for pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems. If you want to feed cats, please do it responsibly: choose a designated area, provide litter/sand boxes where appropriate, clean them regularly, and keep feeding areas away from entrances and public walkways. That way, we can care for the cats without creating unnecessary health and sanitation problems for other residents.
