“I sharpened my sword every morning with the rising sun, to remind myself each day what I was fighting for.” — Hiroo Onoda (the Japanese soldier who fought 29 years after WWII) Yukio Mishima’s speech shows something fudimental about Japanese culture. discipline, loyalty, and purpose. These are universal things every culture idolizes, but I’ve seen these principles cultural relevance decline, and only see them present in individuals who have had great character development, but it continues in the culture of Japan. Japanese culture instills a deep sense of duty to one’s nation and reverence for its culture, traditions, and ancestors. I am not a Japanese nationalist, but I do believe there is beauty in many aspects of Japan’s culture. Notably its warrior tradition, its high trust society, and its determination to unapologetically preserve all of the above, Japanese identity. And it must be said the atrocities committed in WW2 were tragic and should never be repeated, but they aren’t a consequence of Japanese culture nor are atrocities unique to Japan, and by posting or talking about japan I am NOT endorsing any of it. Where i see the beauty is how united the Japanese people are, and how the Japanese people worked so hard and gave so much for Japan, and stayed loyal to their nation when many in the west or elsewhere would’ve packed their bags and fled as refugees. My empathy isn’t for the ideology, it’s for their resolve and conviction, and above all the social principles that have made Japan what it was,and still is. #mishima #japan #samurai #rightwing #masculinity @MasculineVault
