I had a similar situation in my apprenticeship, got offered around £4K to leave. Stayed finished my apprenticeship & got made redundant and got over £4K in my settlement. Glad I held my nerve.

This happened to me working for a major UK bank my performance is great never been on a pip offered me £17K to resign after 81/2 years of service. I rejected it of course 💯 I am member of a union and also got great legal advice. Never resign you will get zero or very limited protection. Let them dismiss u or pay u redundancy. Some of these employers are despicable but remember you have rights 💯

Just happened to me last week. Worked out great for me. Yard was changing location too far away I didn't want to go and they offered me a decent settlement much more than redundancy. Onwards and upwards

Had a former colleague slip in the workshop, fell over and dislocated his shoulder. He was seeking compensation for it....company gave him £25,000....including £12k for him to leave the company.

I work for a large company and they have done this to hundreds of people in last 5 years. Don’t bother with consultation anymore. I mean if the moneys a good offer just take it.

happened me the day after I sat in a hr meeting balling my eyes out about bullying from a manager. little did they know I was coming in that day to give my notice, was a beautiful blessing 😁

I would love this both as an employee accepting a severance and a manager offering one to get someone to leave. Too often you just end up managing someone out by hoping they’ll leave!!

works both ways though sometimes. my old employers were trying to push me out for months. me and the new managers really didn't see eye to eye. and I gave up fighting it in the end. requested a protected chat with HR and offered to walk for £10k. they took it, and I started my new job the following week 👍🏽

In my experience this can tend to happen to people who, either through their own curiosity, or by being in the wrong place at the wrong time, know where a LOT of the bodies are buried - so to speak.

some would be happy with 12k, but need to think what you earn in a year vs how long you will be out of a job, how long to find another you will stick at and like, also that 12k in bank you couldent claim jobseekers till thats gone, so dont rely on any benifits while out of work, that 12k will go quick with bills rent mortgage ect. few years service wait for redundancy or fired and fight them and get more of what your worth is what ide doo👍

My settlement I came away very happy in my head I was hoping for x2 less than I got, from what I heard they had to hire 3 different people to do the job I done 😂 so everything worked out 😎

Happened to me after 6 years of solid results with an employer. My boss left, and her replacement just wanted me out so she could give my job to one of her mates. I took it, and successfully argued that the settlement should be free of tax.
