no, respect and support can be very different you can respect THE PERSON, but not support THEIR IDEAS, that is possible, I mean even in kid shows and grown up shows the main character can have respect for the antagonist while not supporting his ideas and vise versa, just bc you don't support a person's ideas doesn't mean you believe they shouldn't have rights and if you're gonna use that logic, then I would say a lot of the lgbtq community don't want for Christians or other religious people to have rights as they don't support them (aka their ideas)

Honestly anyone who “respects” and doesnt support is just fence sitting on the situation. Its quite obvious most of those people are homophobic but say this not to be attacked by a vournable community. I dont understand why people say this, most of the time they say religion and that they dont support the lifestyle but dont care if other people do it,, but its not like the community is focing YOU to be lgbtq so why cant you just say you support it? Systemic oppression has honestly ruiened us as a society.

I think the main issue is that most people who say this are trying to say that they don’t support the ideology of the LGPTQ (aka the belief that you can have romantic and sexual attraction to the same gender) while simultaneously saying that they respect the lgptq movement and their rights to love who they want and be seen as people. I don’t think the people who say this actually mean they don’t support the movement to have basic rights ( at least ones that I am aware of) but yeah you are right on the interpretation tho.

tbh, you do have some good points. but when you say "respect is acknowledging someone's inherit dignity" we mean by we respect and individuals LGBTQ sexuality and etc, but when we mean by don't support. we have a neutral emotion on LGBTQ people's actions, rights, movement and more. saying we don't support doesn't immediately say that we have a negative vision on LGBTQ people and it's rights and dignity. we just have a neutral emotion towards it, well someone who may or may not have the same opinion as me may not agree. but I would love to hear other people's opinions

It’s because they want to be super lukewarm. Yes you may not understand but dropping your support doesn’t make sense, and it’s sad because it’s not only closet homophobes that do this but also people within the community themselves, distancing from the label that is meant to be a representation of yourself, just because others find it “too much”. But alas they always need a minority to be the scapegoat of everything
