@thetimes: The air in the prison was thick with cigarette smoke and the smell of stewed beetroot. It was just before lunchtime and inmates were milling around in the courtyard in their cobalt blue uniforms. Nearby, others had stripped off their jackets and were rhythmically chopping logs. These men are no ordinary criminals. They are prisoners of war, captured by Ukraine while fighting for Vladimir Putin. Almost none of them are Russian. This camp, which was first built by Nazi Germany in 1941 to hold Soviet captives, has been designated as a prison for foreign-born fighters. It holds about 1,000 inmates from 20 different countries.
