On August 30, 2015, 18-year-old Jolee Callan went hiking with her ex-boyfriend, Loren Bunner, at Cheaha State Park in Alabama. Their relationship had recently ended, but Jolee agreed to go on the hike with him. Throughout the day, Bunner took photos of Jolee near the trails and overlooks, including images that would become some of the last photographs ever taken of her. According to prosecutors, Bunner had already decided before the hike that he was going to kill Jolee. At an overlook near the Pinhoti Trail, he shot her twice—once in the back of the head and once between the eyes—before dragging her body to the edge and throwing her from a cliff. Bunner later called authorities himself and admitted what he had done. Investigators recovered Jolee’s body below the overlook and arrested him.
