personally, i think two things can be true. he pretended to be “kind” in the beginning, becoming her friend when she had none, “playing” with her, “fixing” her, giving her “medicine”. In the process of grooming her, he pretended to be “kind.” It’s a common grooming tactic. I think the words we use when talking about these things are important, but it’s also important to recognize that abusers and rapists are most commonly the people we trust, the people we are closest to, who, yes, begin with pretend kindness to get us to trust them.

They say ‘reward her’ like she wasn’t being abused and manipulated since a child. Actually makes me sick that people use that wording when they’ve got a whole book full of context and still decide to speak bad about her

Grooming and manipulation. Different tactics were used with Liz and Gibs but they were groomed and manipulated. Using the word “kind” in a sentence with that monster makes my gut twist. Mark is the devil.

THANK YOU! I’ve seen so many videos on this and it’s so aggravating?? it’s so weird to say that kindness was used against Lizzie because that was never true! People say that in the beginning he was ‘kind’ to her, BUT that was to manipulate and deceive her.. that’s not true kindness if he already had an underlying objective to manipulate her.. he was NEVER kind to her. If he was kind, he wouldn’t have fucking raped her.. And saying that just undermines all the abuse and trauma that she went through like did they not read the scenes where he would hit her, choke her, call her names and assault her sexually?!? … like she’s not mean because Mark was ‘nice’ what, thats so horrible to say? she has other stuff going on too that makes her defensive bc that’s her coping mechanism because of her trauma.. and as for Gibs he’s kind because he’s just a good person. He uses humor and jokes to act as a mask to cope with his trauma… they’re just two teenagers who cope differently, but to say that one received kindness from their rapist is crazy and to just say that Gibbs is kind because Mark was mean and a bully is so insane and just oversimplifies their character so much. Im annoyed.

I have seen this statement time and time again, and despite challenging it repeatedly, it continues to be perpetuated. Liz was a 6yo child being told “if you bite me, I’ll kill her”. There was no kindness ever. There was predatory grooming, with a significant power imbalance (physically, emotionally and intellectually) from an older, sociopathic child intent on deliberately inflicting harm over a much younger child. He identified exactly how to manipulate both Liz & Caoimhe, and used the emotional chaos in their house to exploit them. The questions he is asking Caoimhe in the first interaction in the Young house as a series of red flags. The fact that people cannot identify grooming, coercive control, and blatant threats, and have the gall to label it “kindness”

Ya when I see ! Gibsie was always happy because mark was mean and Lizzie was always mean because mark was nice to her !!!! WHAT he was never nice to her , she says once she was fixed but it wasn’t mark who did it this time it was Hugh and Hugh didn’t have to hurt her or be mean to do it!!!
