We are a small company and have always grown organically. We have so many different roles within the company for anyone interested. Makers specialise in handcrafting our bespoke globes, laying paper gores across the sphere, wetting and stretching the delicate paper without ripping, rippling, overlapping (or turning it to mush!) is an rare skilled learned starting with a 1 year apprenticeship. Painting is done by very skilled watercolour artists who train to paint on spheres, they need a very precise hand and eye for detail, this requires specific techniques to ensure no errors occur. Our globes have many layers of watercolour and hand painted detail. Cartographers design and create and update our maps. Each map is customised to the clients wishes. Illustrators draw our hand drawn and hand painted illustrations that decorate our maps. This can be anything our clients might dream up with references to family photos or a themed globe like animals or plant life or monuments. There is a woodworking and metal working team creating our handcrafted bases. We undertake bespoke commissions on our bases as well of all kinds. An engraver for our meridians and personalised messages on metal pieces also uses traditional methods. And that is still a generalisation of the many talents we are lucky it have under one roof.
