@buba25tv: The meme starts with a surprisingly interesting mathematical fact: knots as we normally understand them are objects embedded in three-dimensional space. It then imagines a higher-dimensional being looking at our world and wondering why we’re so impressed by something as simple as tying a piece of string. The underlying idea gets much stranger when you start thinking about higher dimensions. Mathematicians can study objects and spaces with more dimensions than we can physically visualize, even though our brains naturally struggle to picture them. So yes, the joke is ridiculous — but the math behind the setup is genuinely fascinating. #Science #Math #Physics #Mathematics #Dimensions
a 4d knot uses 2d planes instead of 1d lines. they are possible

Me when I have no background in science but someone randomly told me once that the 4th dimension is time so it’s basically inarguable fact: this comment section

Yes, time is *a* 4th dimension. But usually when folks talk about a 4th dimension, usually accompanied by a tesseract, they are talking about a 4th SPACIAL dimension. Dimensions are essentially just another way something can have velocity/measurement.

The 4th dimension just isn’t time and I don’t know how any of you think it’s time. Like what the hell? The first dimension is one length, the second is two of the same length, and the third is three of the same lengths, but then in the fourth dimension, it’s just time??? And I know that time is a length, but time doesn’t compare to X Y and Z on a coordinate plane. Consistency matters. If we were two dimensional beings, would we think that the third dimension is time? Sadly, we would, but we don’t see time in the second dimension. The fourth dimension is not time. It’s just another length added to the previous.

Not really going to defend this, but wouldn't (if 4d is something akin to time) a 4d "knot" be like groundhogs day? A mass of 4d that intertwines itself, that if manipulated correctly resolves itself to normal working behavior?

yeah it’s almost like we can’t knot a 2d string. They can knot a 4d string…

Everybody, this hypothetical is talking about a 4th spatial dimension. It's not time, it's in addition to time. There have been video games created that allow you to navigate 4 dimensions, i.e. W/S is the x-axis, A/D is the y, space/control is up/down on the z-axis, and Q/E moves you through a 4th.

Mathematicians can study *theoretical objects and spaces with more dimensions than we can physically visualize. Just because they perform a calculation using math, doesn't mean these things actually exist. The universe isn't built on math. Just because I write a novel about a man who got a brain tumor and became astonishingly smart, doesn't mean it actually happened.

Fun fact, the math says a 5D being could tie you into a knot the same way humans could tie a stringlike object into a knot or a 4D being could tie a 2D object into a knot!
