Massive whitecaps, ocean spray flying off them as they crash into the reef. So when I saw the little spray in the air, I thought maybe it was just a rock that was creating movement in the water. But then... the spray got bigger, and I thought "Was that a whale breaching the surface?" And because I can't keep anything like this to myself, I said to Ac (loud enough that everyone around me heard me), "BABE. I think I just saw a whale!" I really felt a little silly. What if I was wrong? Stupid tourist from Connecticut delirious from jet lag calling a random wave against a rock a whale. But then it happened again. And this time, it wasn't just me watching... but everyone around me. Sure enough. Yep. A whale. Ac patiently held his phone up in the air for several minutes scanning the horizon (it was pretty far out there)... and eventually, the whale did a mini-breach and he got it on camera. One of the things I've been working on the hardest over the last two years is learning to trust myself again. I've ignored my instincts, I've given them up in place of other peoples' opinions. And my instinct said - despite the distance and the fact I wasn't looking for any animal at all - that was a whale. And I was right. This is the power of slowing down enough to see what's around you (a lesson I SORELY need to learn), and trusting your instincts. Trust what you see and feel. Especially when it comes from your body... not your brain. Turns out it's quite common this time of year as the Humpback whales come from Alaska down here to give birth. The warmer waters here are safer to raise their calves and they take one of the longest migration journeys of any mammal. I risked feeling a lot silly, and because of it, now this beautiful creature lives forever in my phone. It's funny because I'm pretty sure there are whale watching tours you can go on and get up close and personal with.... so this video doesn't seem so exciting to the average social media passerby. But the truth is, I wasn't looking for a whale. I was just relaxing on the beach. And the whale showed up... for me. ❤️ #honeymoontrip #oahuhawaii #businesslessons #entrepreneurlife
