@dr_mikem: The most dangerous things in your home isn’t what you think it is. 💊 As a pediatrician of 30 years, some of the scariest cases I’ve seen didn’t come from cleaning chemicals or obvious hazards but rather they came from everyday medications sitting in a purse, a nightstand, or a kitchen drawer. Here are the ones I want you to lock away: 🔒 Iron supplements: one of the leading causes of poisoning deaths in young children. Those gummies and pills look just like candy. 🔒 Pain medications: even the ones you consider harmless can be dangerous in small hands. 🔒 Blood pressure medications: a single pill can seriously harm a small child. And here’s the part that you may forget: it’s not just your home. It’s grandma’s nightstand. A friend’s kitchen. A neighbor’s bag. Curious toddlers explore everywhere, so the safety has to travel too. Know the number for Poison Control before you ever need it: 1-800-222-1222. Save it in your phone right now. if you found this helpful, follow and share and let me know your thoughts below.
I would have NEVER guessed about iron supplements, thank you!

And keep naloxone (Narcan) on hand, especially if anyone is taking an opioid. It’s OTC, although insurance will often cover it, and in many places the health department will give it to you for free. It has no effect if there are no opioids in the system, so it’s okay to use if you are unsure if they’ve gotten into opioids or not.

Do you know where we can buy childproof pill organizers? We have them out of reach but it sounds like it needs to be locked too.

My grandson got his great grandmothers blood pressure medicine, I drove like a maniac to the hospital, luckily we got most of it out of his mouth and he ingested very little, the hospital didn’t act like it was a big deal!
