@earnedwellness: Reassurance, in relation to trauma, can be a signal that someone only experiences stability and security when it's provided to them externally. This can become problematic when it is not provided and can lead to further de-stabilization and disconnection from the self. This becomes a major focal point in therapy in the development of the self. #trauma #cptsd #MentalHealth #bpd #borderlinepersonalitydisorder

I’ve recently encountered this in my work life with a very invalidating boss. I started doing everything I could to earn that validation even though I knew it wasn’t reasonable to want it from this toxic person who had proven himself incapable of delivering many times already. I couldn’t figure out why I had so much anxiety despite going above and beyond for the job. I’ve decided to resign, as I can easily get another job and he will never meet my needs, I on the other hand, can do that, so I will.

I used to do this all the time. Unfortunately, it’s easy to be taken advantage of when you are constantly seeking out reassurance. People will shame you for doing it too

I have reassurance OCD and the only thing that helped was banning myself from certain phrases. I'm no longer allowed to ask "is everything okay? are we okay? is everything alright? are you alright?"
