@thetimes: Why are Met police officers being accused of domestic abuse? Record numbers of Metropolitan Police officers are being reported for domestic abuse and sexual assaults as the force attempts to confront violence against women in its ranks. There were 372 allegations of domestic abuse against officers and staff in the Met last year, more than five times the number a decade earlier. A growing number of complaints are being made against senior officers — 61 against those ranked sergeant or higher last year. In total, 78 police officers in the Met were arrested on suspicion of domestic abuse and 11 were charged. Detective Superintendent Hayley Macro, of the Met’s professional standards unit, said: “We recognise the significant harm and lasting impact caused by domestic abuse and want all victims, whoever they are, to have the confidence to come forward knowing they will be listened to and their allegations taken seriously. “While we know there is more to do and have been open about the time it will take to tackle the issues, we have seen positive signs of improved workforce culture and confidence with three times the amount of wrongdoing reports submitted between 2021 to 2024.” #met #police #standards #domesticabuse #uknews
