@our.ttc.journey: Advocate for yourself. Advocate for your embryos. 🤍 If there is one thing I wish I had understood at the beginning of our IVF journey, it’s this: You have every right to ask questions. You have every right to ask for explanations. And you have every right to advocate for your embryos. I used to believe that because I was paying an IVF clinic to care for our embryos, I could completely trust that every step was being handled correctly. I trusted the embryologists. I trusted the processes. I trusted that our embryos were being accurately identified, graded, documented and stored. Until one of our embryos, a 5AB embryo was incorrectly discarded by our previous IVF clinic. An embryo that represented years of trying. Years of injections, procedures, appointments and heartbreak. An embryo that could have represented our chance at becoming parents. And suddenly, I realised just how important it is to understand what is happening to YOUR embryos. So if you’re going through IVF, please don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself. Ask: 🤍 What is the exact grade of each embryo? 🤍 What day did it reach blastocyst? 🤍 Has it been biopsied? If so, when? 🤍 Where is each embryo stored? 🤍 What is the clinic’s policy for freezing, thawing and discarding embryos? 🤍 Who makes the decision to discard an embryo? 🤍 Is that decision documented, and can I receive the documentation? 🤍 Can I have copies of my embryology reports? 🤍 Can you explain anything I don’t understand before I sign consent forms? And most importantly: If something doesn’t look right, ask again. Don’t worry about being “difficult.” Don’t worry about asking too many questions. Don’t worry about whether someone thinks you’re overthinking it. This is your body. • Your eggs. • Your partners sperm. • Your embryos. • Your money. • Your future. You’re allowed to know exactly what is happening. I never thought I’d have to advocate for an embryo that I believed was safely in the care of professionals. But I learned the hardest way that trusting your clinic doesn’t mean you shouldn’t verify. Ask questions. Keep your own records. Read every consent form. Get copies of your reports. And if something doesn’t make sense, don’t be afraid to speak up. Because when you’re already carrying the emotional weight of infertility, the last thing you should have to worry about is whether your embryo was properly cared for. Advocate for yourself. Advocate for your embryos. Your voice matters. 🤍 #IVF #IVFJourney #IVFAwareness #EmbryoTransfer #Embryo
