I have no idea how readers are going to feel. All I can control is the character’s presentation. What they feel is up to them. If they like the presentation enough to continue, great! If not, that’s fine, too. 👍🏻

I started writing my first draft a few weeks ago after what I thought was an exhaustive outlining and character/plot development process and though I wasn't all that far yet thanks to 40 hour work weeks and life stuff, I was really excited to be making progress. Then I read it through and yeah, I'm going back to square one. It isn't that I don't think it's "good", the issue isn't with the writing it's with the protagonist--specifically the cause of the inciting incident. She's not relatable enough for one thing and I don't feel like the average reader would be pulled in or even understand why her behavior/actions would cause what happens to happen. I'm all for subtlety and out isn't that I'm not giving potential readers enough credit, there doesn't need to be some hugely obvious, in your face issue going on but if I as the writer am looking at something and wondering what's what then how can I expect anyone else to get it? Right? I don't know. I didn't trash anything(I'm handwriting everything at this stage) but I think it's prudent to go back now before I'm further in or more attached to the way things are. I know nothing so thank you for sharing your knowledge.
