It took me almost six years to figure out how to be a better boy mom… One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that moms and sons don’t always naturally speak the same “language”. I often interpreted their actions through my own lens instead of trying to understand theirs 🥹❤️ The more I’ve learned their language, the stronger our relationship has become. Here are 6 things that completely changed the way I see my boys: 💙 What often looks like aggression is sometimes simply healthy energy, adventure and the way they bond with one another. 💙 They don’t only need to know they are loved. They also need to feel respected. The way we speak to them (and the tone of our voice 😬) shapes how they see themselves. 💙 Even though my mom heart can’t always handle it, they love me watching them play rough. I’ve learned that boys often bond shoulder-to-shoulder before they bond heart-to-heart. 💙 Correction is important, but constant criticism can drown out connection. A boy who feels understood is often far more willing to listen. 💙 They long to be trusted with responsibility. Even small opportunities to lead, help and protect build confidence. 💙 Behind every wrestling match, tackle or climb is a little boy asking, “Do you believe in me?” I’m still learning every single day. But choosing to understand my boys instead of simply managing them has been one of the greatest gifts of motherhood. 👉🏽 Any other boy moms here? PS: A book that changed my life as a boy mom: Mother and Son, The Respect Effect by Dr Emerson Eggerichs Xx #creatorsearchinsights
