@heychristainnis: Comment section confessions - this week we asked “What’s something a guest expected of the bride/groom that felt completely unfair?” Share yours in the comments! #wedding #bride #groom #drama #storytime
We won 660 miles to attend the wedding of my nephew. We had two young kids, and they were not invited to the wedding or to the reception. And when we asked what we’re supposed to do with our children after traveling 12 hours, they said we would have to figure it out and their superiority was just insane. Fast forward five years they have two kids and they get divorced. Then they want to get married again and suddenly children are allowed because now they understand how hard it is to find a babysitter.M

I was invited to my nephews second wedding. we were told no kids. my kids were 9,11 and 15. they were old enough to stay home alone for a little while but the wedding was over 8 hours away and we would have to stay overnight if we went. we were told because of money reasons and then come to find out there were kids there and her parents are rich. I don't care if my kids are or aren't invited but don't freaking lie to me

as a parent, I find it weird that parents take it personal when told it's a child free event. my kids do NOT need to be at every event that I'm invited to. find a babysitter or politely decline (and get over it)

As a bridesmaid, I'll wear whatever the hell you tell me to. I just pray it won't cost an arm and a leg lol.

We were invited to a child free wedding. We have an autistic toddler, and we trust exactly 2 people to babysit him, bc he elopes. Our trusted sitters (MIL and SIL) were also invited to the wedding. We declined the invitation. It’s ok not to go to everything. It’s not ok to go against the wishes of the bride and groom

My mom asked me to change the time and complained the venue was far from her. I told her she didn’t have to come. My bridesmaid wanted to wear a different color (black) which is what my mom is wearing. I told her absolutely not, the colors are deep wine, black and white.

My mom said we had to have it close to public transport, so she could drink.

I got told I needed to change my wedding date because it was inconvenient for them 😳 I was venting to one of ny cousins that we were supposed to be on the hook for a hotel room that didn’t get booked out of our block, she said she would have stayed in the hotel if she was able to bring her boyfriend (we didn’t have plus ones, unless married or we knew them because we had over 300 people invited) well the cost of her bringing her boyfriend was cheaper than the hotel room so I caved and let her bring him under condition she would rent the room. Guess who came to the wedding with her boyfriend and didn’t rent the room.

My MIL said if the wedding wasn’t in her backyard she wasn’t contributing. Her backyard!

This is the opposite but… Was in a bridal shop. Bride had a bunch of cute plus size bridesmaids (think Plus Size park hoppers vibe). Wanted them to wear skin tight satin dresses, that were nearly see through. At least two were in tears. They even got the bride to admit she would be uncomfortable wearing the dress. Idk how it ended up.

If the hotel doesn’t take payment when reserving your room on the block then yes the bride and groom are expected to pay. If when reserving a room with the block you are normally asked for your cc info for payment. I’ve been to both. Where you call hotel and say I’d like to put my name down for the smith wedding. And the other one is is like to book a room for the jones wedding. If the hotel didn’t take payment when booking the room it’s on the bride and groom.

I will never understand the desire to bring your kids to a wedding. Those kids will be bored 75% of the time. Unless it’s close family, I always find a babysitter, whether kids are invited or not.

Bride and groom pay for the hotel rooms for the wedding party but they don't pay for the hotel rooms for the guests 🤦♀️

My (now ex) SIL expected to plan our wedding because my ex and I chose a dark blue colour theme. She expected this because her wedding had a bright blue colour theme. Absolutely not! Her wedding was a disaster from start to finish and she only changed to blue a couple of weeks prior to the wedding because everyone was against her original colour theme of camo and orange

My MIL took five toddlers (none of whom were supposed to be there) into a side room and entertained them for THREE HOURS at a cousin’s wedding. Pretty sure she’s going to heaven just for that.

I did all that. my hair and makeup lady were the same person. We did before practices took pictures in the dress. All of that day! Then the day of wedding she calls and tells me she threw her back out. I ended up having to do my own hair and make up and forgetting mascara.

Just a small caveat…. If the alcoholic is in recovery, don’t exclude them from all the events. One of the hardest parts of sobriety for a lot of people is feeling very isolated. They may be comfortable with a portion of the wedding activities like dinner or golf and skip the rest. My dad’s been sober for 40 years, he goes to everything and is the DD!

My ex mil demanded we not have a catholic wedding because she’s a catholic hating “bible church” leader. And, regardless of the fact none of my family was within a 2 hour drive, she tried to demand that we have a potluck reception at her “church” with no alcohol, no dancing, and no pictures because her “family doesn’t do pictures”.

I was in a wedding where none of the bridesmaids had no inspiration for hair and make up, they got theirs done (bride paid) then immediately arriving at the venue all of them washed their faces and took down their hair style it. also the MOH took her convertible dress out of the bag (yes the plastic shipping bag) the day of the wedding with no idea how she would wear it.

My sister wanted me to change the colors of my beach wedding from purple and teal to navy and gold because she liked the dress she picked better in navy.
