There are some things that are hard to put into words because they mean more to you than you know how to explain. My parents came from a small village in Guyana called Triumph Village. They left their home, built a life elsewhere, raised their family, and somehow, generations of sacrifice later, their son became a doctor. And now I get to go back. This year, I’m traveling to Guyana to provide medical care to the people of the village my parents once called home. This isn’t through Doctors Without Borders. It isn’t through a large organization or some established program. This is something I felt called to do on my own — starting small, with the hope of building it into something much bigger. I get emotional every time I talk about this because I think about how many things had to happen before me for me to even have the privilege of doing this. I’m the first person in my bloodline to become a physician, and now I get to take everything my family’s sacrifices allowed me to become and bring a piece of it back to where our story began. There’s something incredibly powerful about that. My hope is that this isn’t just one trip. I want to build something that allows me to return year after year, provide consistent medical support, bring more resources, involve other healthcare professionals, and eventually reach communities throughout Guyana that need it. For now, though, it starts with one village. My parents’ village. Triumph Village Going back to where their story began, carrying everything they made possible for me. Full circle doesn’t even begin to describe it. ❤️ #missiontrip #medical #volunteer #guyana #guyanese
