@owunnavictor: There is something deeply s@d about seeing someone at an age when they should have more freedom, still having to work multiple jobs just to keep up with life. And this is not about looking down on people who work at an older age. Some people genuinely enjoy working and choose to continue. But there is a big difference between choosing to work and having no choice but to work. That distinction is why retirement planning matters. The goal of retirement planning is not necessarily to stop working at 60 or 65. The goal is to get to a point where you don’t have to work just to survive. Start early. Contribute consistently to your retirement accounts. Take advantage of employer matches where available. Invest outside your retirement accounts when you can. Keep your debt under control. And, most importantly, don’t assume that Social Security or your children will be your retirement plan. You don’t need to become wealthy overnight. You need enough time, discipline and consistency for your money to compound. The years you have today are your biggest advantage. Because one day, you may not have the same energy, health, or earning capacity you have today.
