@shaythethey: Although white people may be the most broadcasted in their atheism, most atheist around the world are of color. Participating in religion is extremely expensive and requires much free time. Many, low income people across the world are forced to go without religion because it takes a large amount of economic privilege to participate in. Once you stop fearing poverty, by way of being impoverished achieving atheism becomes that much easier. #atheism #agnostic #religion #money

I spent a large portion of my childhood in rural poverty. It’s hard to have ‘faith’ while starving cold and abused then getting told at church it’s god plan.

Im grateful having grown up in overseas near where the Bible stories took place as well as amongst many cultures that approached the Abrahamic religions in various ways (cuz belief can vary from region to region let alone country to country). Unbelief can be a belief system and ofc the powers that be may believe in nothing because if youre the standard (& u kno youre not much), Lord G-d must not be much either

Is all that you are saying is correct? Absolutely. There’s also a counter side that many churches are not what politics make them all seem. It can also be a place where community gathers and get to be known and known back. It does teach people to meditate, set intentions for themselves, less focus on yourself and to think about others, to be surrounded if a family member dies, or something happens that require other people. There isn’t many places that provide that for people, and it does focus on reading, resources (that includes money), and emotional support. They church can also be a place where people grow as well.

I’m glad you touched on white people being priveleged enough to treat it a certain way. Because in America (not globally) whites men have always been less religious than POC and women, and that should bother people. It’s a “rules for thee and not for me”, and I never see anyone mentioning that.
