The reason handicapped spots are close is because handicapped people have mobility issues. It saves them from walking as far. If they don’t have mobility issues and can easily get in and out of a difficult position, they don’t need the spot so close. Is this a controversial opinion?

my grandfather was handicapped, could barely walk, had a walker but drove a brand new corvette. he wasn't willing to give that up and I loved that for him.

Do people realize you can’t just…get one of those placards? You have to be approved through your doctor and they will usually exhaust all other options first if there are any.

I had heart surgery at 27 and got a placard. The amount of people that had a lot to say until I pulled my collar down to expose my massive 10 inch incision and asked “is this disabled enough for you?” Suddenly no one wanted to keep talking to me.
