I’m not saying the ICE threat shouldn’t be discussed. I’m saying it’s SECONDARY to the initial disrespect. Barrio announced they were coming to Leimert Park to host their own 5K/event without getting authorization or speaking to the community already holding their established event. They were told NO, then people said they were coming anyway. THAT’S what led to Brandy’s response. She didn’t randomly start with “we’re calling ICE.” So before you condemn the reaction, address the disrespect toward the Black community and our event that started this, and make sure it doesn’t happen again. You don’t get to disrespect, double down, say you’re coming anyway, then make the reaction the entire story.

Full black people cannot be racist. They can be bias, and your definition of “black racism” is very much comes from a retaliatory stance from black people. Not excusing people who pushes harm & exclusion. But as a Black & Dominican woman who has lived in predominantly Latin/Spanish communities….. whew. Black people are definitely the most welcoming to their spaces to others outside of their communities. Of course it has been changing because that particular community (black), is definitely pushing back against other groups that also cause them harm.
