@drgreghealth: Here are three common denominators I've seen in middle-aged women that often lead to dementia diagnoses later in life. I've been in the functional medicine space for more than 25 years, and here's the truth. Dementia doesn't start at 75. It starts decades earlier, quietly, while every lab on your chart says normal. Number one: Untreated hearing loss. Dementia researchers rank it as one of the single largest contributors to dementia risk. It gets dismissed, because a hearing aid feels like admitting decline. Ignoring it is the decline. Number two: LDL cholesterol, and the other types nobody's aggressively treating in your 40s. It's not just LDL. You need to look at apolipoprotein B and Lp(a). And if you're checking those, check your inflammation markers too, high-sensitivity CRP, homocysteine, and ESR. Cholesterol isn't just a heart problem you deal with later. Actually, it's a brain problem now. And "we'll keep an eye on it" isn't a plan. Number three: Insulin resistance. Almost nobody runs a fasting insulin test at a routine physical. So your glucose can look perfectly normal, even your hemoglobin A1c could be right where it's supposed to be, while your insulin is already climbing. Newer research is calling insulin resistance a direct bridge between blood sugar dysfunction and the brain changes we see in Alzheimer's. Your blood sugar isn't a waistline problem. It's a 30 years from now brain problem. None of this is being hidden from you. It's being missed, because the system tests what's cheap and what's billable, not what actually predicts your future. So get your hearing tested. Get a full lipid panel with inflammatory markers. And demand the test almost nobody offers you, fasting insulin. Don't wait for someone to hand it to you, demand it. Find the root. Heal the whole.

I have read tirzepatide is getting researched for helping prevent dementia. Is that due to the way it helps inflammation and insulin?

I'd say it's rather the statins they give for cholesterol than cause dementia, right? Because last study I've read, high cholesterol is connected to a longer life span.

Untreated hearing loss but hearing aids start at $7000 and aren't covered by insurance.

I have familial hypercholesterolemia. Should I go on statins and wait for that to cause dementia or should I just wait for my cholesterol to cause it?
