Birds are literally dinosaurs. Trust me as a person that kept a lot of parrots, cockatoos etc they understand the meaning of what they are mimicking. I had one parrot that if you went to touch him and he didn’t want he would say “don’t bite” as a warning. If you did touch without permission he would pinch bite you and mimic a laugh. You could absolutely he was going to bite too. Remember that close up scene with the TRex in Jurassic where the eyes dilated. That was Rocky’s eyes when he was going to bite. He taught those words and behaviors to every other bird, parakeet, cockatiel, African Grey, baby spectacle Amazon and a Moluccan Cockatoo in the household. Eventually they all spoke and/or sang anywhere from 30 to easily 100 plus words and they knew what they meant. I think it’s easy to discern the intelligence of these birds due to their talking but I think animal are much smarter than we think, so very much so!
