@ellequii: Please just call your vet if you think your horse is colicking, it’s really not worth the risk! Of course no hate to the original poster; this is purely in case anyone had seen this video and didn’t understand the risks that come with home remedies like this #horses #equine #equestrian #horseriding #colic
She has done a lottt of controversial things. I actually couldn’t believe my eyes on that one tho

It’s not to say she wouldn’t call her vet. The Gatorade, as she explained, was a flavor he liked in hopes to get him to drink water. Colic doesn’t not need to be an immediate vet call. You keep a close eye, you don’t brush it off, but you do what you can first. I don’t personally see what’s wrong with this.

I saw this video and actually couldn’t believe how chill she was being about it I’d be calling the vet the second I even had the idea my horse might be colicing 😭

if it's something your vet would NOT recommend doing when they're colicking don't do it! and if your vet says give them a fizzy drink, get a new vet !!

My horse colics all the time due to weather changes or random things bc he’s a thoroughbred. He gets probios and he’s fine after. Don’t always need a vet if they seem or look a little colicy

Sorry. Vet is too expensive these days to call out an emergency or trailer for mild/early symptoms. Don’t agree with tubing buts there’s a lot you can do at home.

Literally. I'd be removing everything from their stable on the phone to the vet, not encouraging them to drink more and make a possible impaction worse or delay them for surgery/cause complications during surgery.

While I agree that tubing the horse w/ Gatorade is both ridiculous and irresponsible, I do have to say if a horse in my car is only showing signs of mild colic, I’m giving it banamine and walking it until something more severe happens. If you’ve been around horses for a while, you get a feel for it like you should get a “feel” everything else. Just my opinion🤷🏻♀️

she said “he was acting” my horse is a stage five actor, and I know how this feels and the horse might just be doing it for the drink.

When we get horses, we sign up for being broke. I really hope that horse got the medical attention they needed

I’m 1 minute away from calling my vet anytime I just see my horse lay down. This is actually a crazy mentality

My horse wouldn’t drink when colicking anyway so this wouldn’t work at all… thankfully I have half a brain cell so we called the vet and they were rushed to hospital to recover!

i have wasted €250 on a vet visit which was a fluke, I’d do it again in a heartbeat if I was uncertain.

Her idea isn’t bad. Just do it AFTER you call the vet to try to get them drinking while you wait lol

Also choke as well as colic! Please do not force feed coke/fizzy pop/water for any horse illness 😭

Ok I think people need to calm down about this video 😅 colicky can just be used as a broad term for just anything simply off. She didn’t say he was out right colicking and he is obviously very alert and perky. He was most likely just dehydrated which a lot of vets even recommend gatorade for quick hydration because of the sweet taste to get them to drink. I’m sure if he was in true danger she would act quick about it.

I'm sick of people refusing to call a vet. I take care of a mini Shetty and last year the owner refused to get a vet or farrier out even though HIS horse showed clear laminitis symptoms. he called me a dramatic woman and said it's all homemade... disgusting in my eyes
