One of my students told me recently that he was frustrated because he wasn’t seeing any progress with his weight. He was dieting. Exercising. Being consistent. But he was weighing himself every single day. And I told him: that’s exactly the problem. When you measure something every day, the changes are often too small to see. You’re looking at it from too close. And I think Spanish learners do exactly the same thing. “I still hesitate.” “I still make mistakes.” “I still need time to find my words.” Of course you do. You’re comparing today’s Spanish with yesterday’s Spanish. Zoom out. Compare the conversations you can have now with the conversations you could have six months ago. How much longer can you stay in Spanish? How much more can you understand without translating? What situations feel normal now that used to make you panic? Day to day, progress is almost invisible. Zoom out far enough, and it becomes undeniable. Sometimes you’re not stuck. You’re just standing too close to see the difference.
