Cocomelon might look like harmless nursery rhymes… but it’s actually one of the MOST overstimulating shows for kids 😬 Why it’s overstimulating ➡️ The editing is fast and choppy (with quick scene changes), multiple moving objects on screen at the same time, constant background music layered over singing, the colors are neon-bright, and there are almost zero pauses for kids’ brains to process what’s happening. The camera zooms and pans pretty frequently too. Yes, it’s keeping your kids hooked for hours but that’s exactly the problem. It does this by flooding their brains, which makes focusing, calming down, or transitioning away from it so much harder. You may also notice more meltdowns and aggressive behavior after watching overstimulating shows. Low-stimulation shows do the opposite. They’re slower, gentler, and give kids time to absorb what they see while modeling kindness, friendship, and problem-solving instead of chaos. Here are some low stimulation options (and where you can stream them): 🐸 Frog and Toad — Apple TV+ 🐰 Guess How Much I Love You — Prime Video 🐭 If You Give a Mouse a Cookie — Prime Video 🍃 Tumble Leaf — Apple TV+ / Prime Video 🔍 Elinor Wonders Why — PBS Kids 👴 Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood — PBS Kids / Prime Video 🦆 Sarah and Duck — Youtube and Prime Video 🚛 Trash Truck — Netflix 🌸 Stillwater — Apple TV+ If you’re looking for helpful strategies to move toward less screen time (without creating more work for yourself), make sure to follow along! #toddlerparents #lowstimulation #screentime
