How long did it take for you guys to mend the trust in your relationship with your son? I can’t look past the anger I received and gaslighting and invalidation… I had no grasp on reality bc of it. I developed cptsd. I can’t really look past that. It’s a deep resentment and I suffered in life because of it.

@jillcampbell878: Thank you for sharing the term traumatic invalidation - new to me but resonates… Out of interest do you use Internal Family Systems in your work? I’m new to that too, but finding it very helpful.

if every adult parent would do a 12 step program and really take your time doing the 4th step inventory( mine took 2 years) it would open many pathways to healing. It doesnt have to be an AA program ( mine was Alanon) but there are steps that you can take to heal your childhood trauma where you learned on those bad behaviors. Healing is slow but so worth it!

Thank you so much for sharing your journey with your son. After being the adult and parent (roles)in my kids’ lives, it has been difficult at times, to have those open, heart to heart, adult conversations about their childhoods. To sit and stay in the discomfort of it. Your posts are so helpful. ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you! This is exactly what I’m working on . Pyhcoanalizing everyone and everything . I learnt this through life and education. People do especially our kids need want anyone else connecting dots and giving them therapy ! It feels very evasive . It’s due to my own abuse trauma . It’s def not a normal part of building healthy relationship . I think having that part stand beside me instead of leading is key

my son is only 8, and i had a mother who used to fake ilness thus i have had therapy! anyhow i feel i have beco.e quite a good mother, i hold space for him to let everything out, i make mistakes and appologise, i did have an issue with being afraid to lead because i did not want to sqwash his sense of self. anyhow my experience is that being a mother is messy in that you co stantly have to change to be who they need you to be in that moment or stage.
you explain it all so well thanks :)
