We don't just lose leaders. WE HELP LOSE THEM. Thomas Sankara's assassination should still shame us because his greatest vulnerability was not the strength of his enemies, but the fracture within his own circle. He challenged corruption, rejected dependency, demanded dignity, pushed women's rights, promoted self-reliance, and tried to prove that African leadership could serve the people instead of feeding from them. Yet on October 15, 1987, Sankara was killed in a coup led by Blaise Compaoré, his longtime friend, fellow revolutionary, and one of the men he trusted most. That is the tragedy we keep refusing to confront. We celebrate visionaries when they are safely dead, quote their speeches decades later, print their faces on shirts, and call them heroes after the danger has passed, but when they are alive, standing against powerful interests and asking us to sacrifice for a better future, too many of us abandon them, undermine them, remain silent, or choose proximity to power over principle. Sankara did not need millions of mourners thirty years later. He needed loyalty when betrayal was standing beside him. And the brutal question is this: have we learned anything? Or are we still destroying whistleblowers, mocking reformers, defending corrupt systems, attacking those who challenge us, and waiting until our best people are gone before suddenly discovering their value? Africa cannot keep burying its visionaries and then turning their graves into classrooms. At some point, we must learn the lesson while the heroes are still alive. #uyiosael Song Title: Cold Kiss (LINK IN BIO) Available on all major streaming platforms! #coldkiss #thomassankara #africa #betrayal #bokinafaso🇧🇫
