I work in animation and from what I’ve seen most artists don’t use use in their workflow but everyone on a managerial or producer level constantly use ai. Any notes or requests for changes any idea or concept someone wants to be explored always paired with some awful ai generated examples

The costume and hair stuff is just showing how the “feminine” trades and arts are devalued too! Like we have fashion historians and people tapped into the actual runway trends! And just so many other experts with experience with actually DOING hair and makeup! But they don’t want to pay those people or think they are worth paying

Yes, artist/costume worker here. Yes, we are seeing so much AI end up in the design. You can put it down to ridiculous time constraints and directors/producers becoming lazy in their craft. Internet is also now flooded with AI images and students dont know how to accurately research these images.

I worked in costumes in a film recently and they used SO MUCH gen ai for basic ass fits 😭

I cant really get on board with any of their excuses because theres nothing happening now that they couldn't have pulled off 6 years ago before we had AI. The danny Boyle thing is so disappointing. like come on Danny if you wanted to put mice in a film 6 years ago animal cruelty was not the only option

so AI was used on the Spider-Man Ride at Universal. not the ride itself but it was used to "remaster" the queue video. I rode it for the first time in a while and was just so shocked. The original video didn't even look that bad, in fact the AI "remaster" looks worse because lines are inconsistent and the text is gibberish.

the greater film industry has never respected concept art, they still don’t. Even in the conversation of film production at institutions, concept art is rarely if ever brought up as a part of the process. We’re seeing a direct consequence of that

it's hard not to be depressed as a creator sometimes. what's the point of the things I'm good at? when you can hit a button and get something roughly similar in seconds. am I obsolete? did I miss the brief window to be a woman professional artist with acclaim? I try to just make things because I love it and hope it reaches people. but it's a dark cloud over me

after watching the BTS for The Substance and Laika studios for Coraline and their new film (Wildwood), i refuse to support any company/studio that uses gen ai for ANY step of movie creation, ESPECIALLY CONCEPT ART.
