Which kind of tells me that we don’t find things “intelligent” until it reaches a point where we don’t understand exactly what it does. That is what I find frustrating and why I like your question about usefulness much better…

So the lsnguage used is tikz and the model is trained on this. especially since its in a paper. So the test is not comparable

It’s no the intelligence that is important. It’s the agency and self awareness. Could it be set free—unleashed online and then self replicate and begin autonomously doing what it “wanted” whatever that might mean to a language model.

I think whats interesting is that this really tests one kind of internal representation. A poor one at best. There are lots of ways for an AI to represent and solve the same spatial problem. Example. Now you can have AI use Blender, render the result, compare it, fix it, and repeat. So maybe the better question isnt whether it can picture this perfectly internally, but whether it can find a way to solve the problem.
