I went to buy a brand new Jetta in 2011. When I got to the dealership on a Saturday afternoon in Barrie Ontario Canada, I walked around for over 20 minutes without seeing a sales rep. As I went into he building a rep pulled up with a 2011 Black, tinted, manual transmission Jetta, and I said to the rep, perfect timing, I'll take it! Seriously, this is exactly what I came for! The rep said, this one isnt for you and no one will be able to help you, and he walked back inside. So, I left, went down the street and bought a Black, tinted, manual Honda Civic instead. The emissions scandal happened a few years later. I did eventually buy and SUV, and then missed a manual little zippy car, so I bought a 2006 Jetta 2.0T (turbo), used from a guy on Kijiji and had some fun with that for a bit, but VW will never get any money from me!

It’s incredible how Wells Fargo executives managed to keep their jobs and collect full bonuses after that scandal; it really shows that for these massive corporations, paying the fines is just considered a standard cost of doing business rather than a deterrent. That $3 billion fine was nothing compared to the money they made.

There NEEDS TO BE A LAW that ANY settlement amount must be more than the profit amount. As well as any fine amount must be more than the profit from the crime itself. These scams, like the bread price fixing scam in Canada. They made 4 billion off of the price fixing but only paid $1 billion in fines and settlements. That ENCOURAGES companies to continue to scam customers. If a company can make $3billion AFTER court costs and settlements, why wouldn't they do it again?
