The test can be flawed by implying there’s such a thing as being without fear and/or being without fear being a good thing. And John’s parents can also be sore losers with deep inferiority complexes that use fear of mediocrity to define their entire lives. Those are both things that can be true. If there’s one thing that’s true in the GL franchise it’s that the Guardians fucking SUCK at their jobs.

Jon Stewart is the only good green lantern imo, the justice league animated series made him so iconic and is still one of my favorite black characters ever to appear in animation, when I was a kid, I saw him as Green Lantern

the rings selection process is imperfect but it IS fair because it’s the same for everybody regardless of race or any other circumstance and that’s what i think a lot of people don’t understand when they chalk it up to “hal only got it because he’s white”

People need to stop thinking of the ring like it’s mjolnir. They are looking for people who can do the job they want performed. There’s no worthy or not worthy. The guardians want a job performed, and it may not be a job that people should want to perform.

And remember sinestro was one of the best. And one of the things that I love about all of this and the war of lights is that it’s not just the selection process, but also the system that was wrong. The guardians were never that infallible

this is one thing I've always wondered about. Green lanterns like strong willpower does not have anything to do with being a good person. I would argue among the human race, it's way more likely to indicate bad.

funny I still don't hear anybody bring up the actual problem with the episode The Ring does not ask you if you are afraid it tells you that you have the potential to overcome great fear which is the criteria that it uses for picking someone everything else was just a bunch of noise that they wanted to do with the TV show

Thought the whole point about the test being vague and very flawed was meant to demonstrate that the Guardians really have no idea how other beings process emotions. The Guardian Jon spoke with seemed utterly baffled at the idea that meaningful bonds were a requirement for humans for example. These aliens do not feel emotions like other beings do and created the selection process based on how they viewed these emotions and it very much was NOT in line with other species.
