Fourteen police officers turned up at the scene. A beloved family dog was shot dead by police after a woman’s celebration screams over the Knicks historic NBA win sparked a welfare check. Jameson, a two-year-old golden retriever, St Bernard and poodle mix, was shot dead by LAPD officers outside the woman’s apartment on Canoga Park. Video of the incident shows the Jameson, dressed in a Knicks jersey, lying motionless on the floor as his owner, Marie Marsielle, cries over his body, and shouts: “We were just so happy. We were celebrating the Knicks. We were f****** celebrating the Knicks.” Around 8pm on Saturday, Miss Marsielle was on a FaceTime call with her son, Jeremiah Garcia, who was downstairs at his girlfriend’s apartment. Moments later, Jameson was dead. Around 14 LAPD officers turned up at the scene. Miss Marsielle said her dog wasn’t baring his teeth, growling, aggressive, or barking “he was just moving towards the officer”. A Justice for Jameson fundraiser has since been launched, with £74,000 raised by Tuesday afternoon. “Anyone who’s met Jameson would tell you he is the sweetest boy in the world. Please help us raise money to get Justice for Jameson and any cremation fees,” Jeremiah wrote on the fundraising page. The neighbour who phoned police said he felt guilty about Jameson’s death but had genuine concerns. In a statement, the LAPD said: “The resident closed her door momentarily. She re-opened the door, and the dog exited the apartment. Once outside the apartment, the dog charged at one of the officers, resulting in an Officer-involved Shooting (OIS).” Jameson’s body was taken by the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services and the incident is being handled by the Force Investigation Department. #5news #knicks #dogs
