@chandlerroth55: In December 2023, I met a nasty little thoroughbred while caring for our family’s rescue horse. His owner trained him to race as young as he could. By 6 years old, he’d been medically retired after a few surgeries. He was free to a good home. My sister and I have been around horses our whole lives. Owning my own horse had always been a dream of mine. Still, when presented with a special opportunity, I wondered if the realities of horse ownership were something I was willing to take on. My husband has never been around horses. It wasn’t his dream. Almost three years later, the angry thoroughbred, now named Zorro, is a most treasured member of our family. He brings me so much joy. He is curious, kind, and gentle with my young child. He is caring and playful with our aging rescue horse and brings out his youth! There is nothing easy about horse ownership! Actually, there is one thing: the love. And somehow, that makes it all worth it. I’m so grateful I took the leap, and I’m grateful for my husband who supported the idea when he had no idea what any of it meant 😂 I love you so much, Z!
