It is in China’s interest to continually posture as if they might invade, but never actually do so. The TSMC would be ruined. The US is developing domestic semiconductor production and when it’s done they will gradually ditch Taiwan. Once that happens, the faction of the KMT that wants reunification will grow. Why rock the boat and damage the global economy when you can just wait?
