At 9:58 a.m. he reached Westmoreland County dispatch on his cell phone, reported a hijacking in progress, named himself and the flight, and stayed on for about 70 seconds. The passenger revolt had just begun. Five minutes later, the plane crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. By taking the aircraft down themselves, the passengers and crew stopped it from reaching Washington. The intended target was the U.S. Capitol or the White House. There is no exact count of lives saved, but Congress was in session and thousands of people were on Capitol Hill that morning.
