I have one in med school and one in law school 🤷🏼♀️. Never did we ever tell them they were the smartest, or the best on the team. We just tried to instill in them to try there best at whatever it is.

And honestly, I hope that child never hears you describe him as “average.” A child’s confidence shouldn’t be shaped by whether an adult thinks he’s exceptional enough to deserve being hyped up. Sometimes the people who love us are supposed to be our biggest cheerleaders.

My 5 y/o son is autistic. He loves watching abandoned houses get restored. He buries his toys in the backyard, so that he can clean and restore them. I am just glad he’s not an iPad kid watching brain rot 🤷♀️

The idea that you should make a child feel “average” because you consider them average is a pretty big opinion to place on a kid. Who gets to decide what makes a child exceptional anyway? Kids don’t need adults constantly evaluating whether they’re extraordinary enough to deserve praise. They need people in their corner who encourage them, celebrate their effort, and help them believe in themselves. ❤️
